Horses inspire a deep sense of wonder for me. One thousand pounds of power, beauty, speed, and grace that chooses to put their trust and cooperation ~ in you. A Puny human. When the 2 of you move as one, it is pure magic. I have always liked my horses more wild than tame. When a wild horse trusts you ~ that’s meaningful. All the more adventure and uncertainty, and your face in the dirt now and again.
Grandpa Carl taught me at the tender age of 4, “You get back on the horse that threw you! Don’t you dare walk away! Swallow your fear and try again. You can do it.”
I went on to learn jumping, rodeo, reining, and went on lots of sketchy trail rides. I was never one to stick to the trails. I have had many adventures with horses.
Read a story about, “Fanny”, my rodeo girl, and wild child here.
This is Chapter 1 from my upcoming book, Conversations with Skunks.
The journey from cowgirl to entrepreneur is a short ride. Taking risks, a taste of adventure, making split-second decisions in the thick of things, and occasional face plants. You get up, dust your self off, see if you can figure out what happened, and go again.
Business is all about building trusting relationships. Horses taught me to use subtle communication and intuition. Speed and agility of thinking.
Cowgirl Creative Coaching is inspired by the spirit of adventure and grit that both cowgirls and entrepreneurs have. It takes speed and agility to get your ideas to market.
Safety and success for horses is in the herd. More eyes, more wisdom. Small business is the same. Together we thrive and create rich communities of collaboration and innovation. Small business is the backbone of what carries great communities. We have the grit and spirit to shift quickly in response to changing needs and conditions. We have the boots on the ground ability to address short term situations. And, the vision and creativity to shape the future. We help our clients see beyond what they think is possible.
I work with coaches, consultants, and small businesses building a personal brand and business development using LinkedIn. What does that mean? Establishing a strong brand, building your networks, expanding your influence, increasing opportunities, strengthening referral partnerships, and discovering new ways to reach your ideal audience with connection and content strategies that get results. My personal mission is to change the awkwardness of “self-promotion” to an act of service.
I was born a teacher. I had a mentor/friend tell me once that, “You could teach anything, anywhere to anyone.” She’s not far from the truth. I have taught on 5 continents, all ages from pre-school to ElderHostel. And, yes, I have taught Rocketry to at-risk high schoolers at Malcolm Shabaz High School in Madison, WI. They had a blast, really threw themselves into it with abandon. Nobody died.
Same ol’ same ol’ is boring. Take a risk on yourself and your business. Dare to be successful. Dare to be interesting. The trust between horse and rider can take you both to places you didn’t think possible. Faster. Farther. Partnership in small business is the same. If you want to go fast, go alone. You’ll likely fall a few times and get off course. If you want to go far, pick some great partners.
